Indigenous Place Names app for iPhone and iPad

Prior to colonisation places and features carried names given to them millennia ago, descriptive names that told the story of their creation or events that occurred around them. There is a richness to the names lost on some of the colonials. For others they were worth the time and effort to record before they were lost to time.  

Some features had many names. Mountains, rivers, Islands and so on. Places used or seen by different dialect groups over time and distance, or as some major event or battle caused the renaming.  

This App is a work in progress. There are 1585 places identified in this App. The culmination of more than two years research. There are hundreds maybe thousands more hidden in archives or held in memory by those who still use them. Every effort is made to be as accurate as possible. As more are added updates will become available.

Currently dialects and meanings are missing from many of the places. Where they are known they have been added. As more information is dug out of old records or archives, those already here will be amended where possible.
